Get to know more about High River Alliance Church

High River Alliance Church (HRAC) is a community of Jesus followers associated with the Alliance Canada. It is one of some 420 like-minded churches across our nation whose prayer is to be Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, and Mission-focused. Since its inception in 1887 through the work of Rev. Albert Simpson, the Alliance Canada around the world has been focused on a biblical. understanding and communication of Jesus as the Saviour, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King.

HRAC was established in 1983 in the Joe Clark school (next to its current location) to gather like-minded people around a weekly Sunday worship celebration of life, fellowship, and service in Jesus Christ.
HRAC is a friendly and welcoming congregation consisting of a broad cross-section of young and middle-aged families as well as seniors. The church is known in the community for how it served High River during and after the flood of 2013. Like its sister Alliance churches, HRAC exists for Christ-centered worship, fellowship, and service for God by the power of the Holy Spirit. Sunday worship services are vibrant expressions of love for God, for one another, and for the world. Programs for children, youth, and adults exist to form true biblical disciples of Jesus. Our  Church Ministry Structure

If you're curious how High River Alliance Church is structured- keep reading below!

The Congregation

High River Alliance Church believes in a process of affirming those who desire to be members of the church. Members are qualified by their confession of faith through verbal testimony and baptism, by their willingness to support the church’s Statement of Faith, as well as the Local Church Constitution and the church’s Bylaws. Further, members are qualified by an application and an interview process conducted by designated Elders of the church. High River Alliance Church is amenable to the Western Canadian District of the Alliance Canada through the church’s elders.

The Elder's Board

The Elders Board currently consists of up to 5-6 men who are elected by the members of the congregation to serve two-year terms for a total of two terms. Great care is taken by the Nominating Committee to ensure that elders are biblically qualified and prepared to take on the responsibility of leading and governing the life of the church between Annual Meetings. The Elders Board meets monthly, or as necessary with the Pastor, to process matters of ministry leadership in the life of the church. Along with the Lead Pastor, the Elders Board is responsible for overseeing ministry development in the life of the church. For his part, the Pastor is designated by the Board to lead and oversee ministry between Elders Board meetings.

The Ministry Leadership

Each ministry at HRAC is established through the Pastor and Elders Board initiative, or a process of consultation with the Pastor and Elders Board. Ministries are defined by Lead or Team Job Descriptions that have been approved by the Elders Board. Leaders for ministries are selected by the Elders Board based on their spiritual maturity and giftedness. Most often, ministry leaders are asked to serve for one year at a time, annually evaluating and considering ministry for the forthcoming year.

The Lead Pastor

The Pastor is called and commissioned both by the Elders of the church and the Alliance District leadership to lead and oversee ministry development in the church. They serve as a non-voting member of the Elders Board, work with the chair of the Board to plan the Board’s meetings, report to the Board in their meetings, and offer ideas for ministry development. The Pastor is commissioned by the Elders Board to oversee the Office Administrator and any other pastoral staff and their ministry development, as well as the church’s general ministry development between Board meetings.  They are responsible to the denomination, and the Elder's Board.

* The church is currently in a time of transition between resident pastors.

Annual General Meeting

Each year in June, members are asked to meet in order 1) to receive and adopt ministry reports, 2) to receive a financial report, and 3) to elect elders who have been nominated by the elected Nominating Committee (or by the members of the church otherwise). The Annual Meeting is also an opportunity to process any other business that the Elders Board deems relevant to the church’s larger vision, mission, and goals.

Members Meeting

Subsequent Members Meeting is held in late October or early November each year to adopt the final financial report of the previous year and to adopt a budget for the forthcoming ministry year. This meeting also is the time when two members of the church are elected to represent the congregation on the Nominating Committee (along with two members of the Elders Board chosen by it).

Other Roles

Other Roles of Responsibility – Each year the Elders Board decides who will serve as its chair, vice-chair, secretary, and treasurer. Some Elders, individually or together, will be assigned responsibility for specific ministries such as facility needs, or other ministry leadership, as determined by the Elders Board and the Pastor. Office Administrator – HRAC’s daily administrative needs are coordinated by someone who is employed in this capacity.   HRAC also employs a part-time bookkeeper.
